Rosie & Millie
sanctuary residents since February 2024
A post on social media led us to connect with farmer who was wanting to place a duck with a severe limp. They were aware that the duck, now Rosie, needed more advanced care than they could provide after suffering from a mating injury. While coordinating it was mentioned that there was another duck, Rosie's daughter, who suffered a similar injury and if we wanted to take her. We knew immediately their chance of healing would be stronger when together, and keeping families together when possible is always the best thing for them. Rosie and her daughter Millie moved in.

During their first month here there was a large amount of medical needs, especially Millie. It was found Rosie's injury was too far past repair to help straighten that leg any more, however with Millie there was still time. Millie underwent a surgery on the injured leg, which was successful and she did great. At only 7 months old at the time, Millie was so strong! After a few weeks of healing, Millie was ready to really start sanctuary life.

Rosie is nurturing at heart and is always keeping an eye out on the special needs flock to make sure everyone is safe - if there's something off or someone is doing something they shouldn't, Rosie alerts with her loud honks. She is a true mama. Millie is so curious & playful, quick to investigate anything or anyone new! Little Millie will also do just about anything for mealworms or tomatoes...did we say more mealworms? Both mama & daughter get around quite well considering, and need extra TLC & accommodations to help them truly thrive.
