Cava
sanctuary resident since May 2024
Cute, innocent and only weeks old wasn't enough to save Cava from the fate of most male ducks purchased in the spring time - he was found abandoned at a retention pond in Northern Vermont. He still had baby feathers. After rescuers were made aware of his situation, they reached out to us for placement and engaged in a successful and live saving rescue. On his way to the sanctuary he came.

It's hard to imagine being left to fend for yourself in a big, scary pond with moving cars all around and uncertain about the wild. Domestic ducks and wild ducks are different, most notably their ability to fly and escape predators. Domestic ducks, especially the large bred Pekins, are unable to fly & soar making them easily targets for predators. Their life will not be long in the wild.

Luckily, Cava's fate was turned around that day where he now lives amongst friends with the Bachelor Flock. Cava is a unique little cookie who is always on the go in sport mode & a little shy. It's easy to tell him apart from the others since he's a bit smaller in size with a lean build.
Cava is looking for his special friend!
