Keller

in loving memory

Spring 2018 we went to an adoption event in Northern Vermont to meet "Happy"and support the dog rescue, never intending to bring home any pup that day. While we were talking to a volunteer about Happy and hearing his past, we knew we wanted to give him the hospice home he deserved for far too long. Stage 4 heart murmur, osteoarthritis, CCD, limited vision & cataracts, even less hearing, large fatty tumor. There was no adoption fee, just a promise to give this boy the best life we can, for however long he was with us.

His name changed to Keller.

For 1 year and 36 days we held our promise.

Camping, road trips, breweries, fire pit nights, trail walks, dirt road walks, dog friends, holiday parties - he saw it all.

He is the one who showed how to find the deepest level of compassion in the darkest parts of the heart. The one that taught us how to push, love, fight, care, and nurture life no matter how long that life was going to be. The one who began us on the journey of creating sanctuary.

Overlooking the entire land is a perennial bush growing in size each year, where he is always with us.

Keller is every bit a part of this.

He, is the true founder of Free to Be.
